Bryan Boender is a trial lawyer with jury trial experience in federal, state, and municipal courts practicing criminal defense and civil litigation. A substantial part of Bryan’s practice also involves personal injury plaintiff’s representation. Additionally, Bryan is dedicated to veterans rights and advocacy.

Bryan brings his litigation experience to Arnold Law. As a criminal defense attorney, Bryan has represented those accused of major felonies, misdemeanor offenses, and cases of drunk or drugged driving (DUII). Bryan’s experience also includes complex criminal defense, such as homicides, sex crimes, and other crimes charged as “Measure 11” offenses.

Civil rights claims, civil litigation, and personal injury claims complete the core of Bryan’s practice. He has brought claims against government, industry, and individuals on behalf of clients who have been physically injured or deprived of their civil liberties.

Veterans’ Rights

Bryan is a combat veteran. He served more than four years of active duty with the U.S. Army. As an airborne infantryman, Bryan was a paratrooper with the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Bryan served a fifteen-month tour to Afghanistan, when the 508th was sent to Afghanistan as part of the Division’s Fourth Brigade Combat Team during Operation Enduring Freedom VII-VIII. During law school, Bryan continued to serve part time in the Oregon Army National Guard. As a JAG Certified Law Clerk, Bryan prosecuted military justice violations in administrative separation hearings.

Veterans’ issues remain very important to Bryan. He is a founder of the first Free Legal Clinic for Veterans in Oregon. A collaboration between the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the non-profit law firm Access the Law, the clinic has provided free legal services to more than 400 veterans since it was first established. The Clinic is still held monthly in Eugene, Oregon at the V.A.’s downtown location.

Employment History

Bryan began his criminal defense career at Public Defender Services of Lane County, Inc., where he clerked for two years during law school. Afterwards, Bryan established himself as Boender Litigation, LLC. As a solo practitioner, the theme of Bryan’s early practice was a “public interest attorney in private practice” because of his focus on civil rights and indigent defense. He represented more than a thousand clients as a court appointed attorney. And on occasion, he defended some of the most vulnerable members of our community against involuntary civil commitments.

Education

Bryan earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) from the University of Oregon in 2012. He also holds certificates of completion in the Criminal Practice Program, the Pro Bono Law Program, and the Public Interest Public Service Law Program. He was also recognized by the law school with the Nicole Richardson Outstanding Pro Bono Service Award.

At graduation, the students elected Bryan to serve as the class commencement speaker. The Pat Tillman Foundation honored Bryan by twice naming him a Tillman Military Scholar.

Bryan earned his master’s degree (M.S.) in public policy from Rutgers University in 2000. At Rutgers, Bryan was named an Eagleton Fellow to the Eagleton Institute of Politics. Bryan’s bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from Seattle University was finished in 1998. Bryan worked his way through college and completed his undergraduate degree in four years.

Hobbies and Interests

Bryan enjoys hiking and camping at the Cascades lakes as well as cinema and fine dining. Originally from Seattle, Bryan lives in Eugene with his wife Amanda. She is also a practicing attorney.
